After completing his degree studies in Agricultural Sciences, he opens the company cellar that takes his name:Davide Campagnano - The family, the land, the wine, located in the Terre del Volturno PGI territory. The name contains three values, pillars of the company philosophy: the family, the value of the peasant family, the family sharing of a passion; the earth, the cradle where the project of making wine was born and grew and where one belongs to one's own territory, in which one believes and decides to invest one's future, remaining tied to one's roots; wine, a tradition that has always been linked to the Campagnano family since the time of the great-grandparents, so much so that the company also cultivates vineyards over 25 years old and a sunburst from 1958.
What is the cellar for you?
"The cellar represents my identity, that of a young wine-grower who finds himself in his roots and at the same time in his projection towards the future: respect for origins, passion for the territory, the indispensable inclination to 'do the wine'".
Can you tell us about the place where your company is located?
"In the municipality of Castel Campagnano, in the province of Caserta, an area that has seen the revival of its winemaking traditions over the last twenty years. The grapes grown and the wines produced are Pallagrello Nero, Pallagrello Bianco and Barbera Sannio (recognized as Camaiola It is made up of about 9 hectares of vineyards, with both hilly and foothill land that are part of the 'Caiatine hills', an area crossed by the Volturno river and surrounded by the Matese and Taburno massifs”.
What do the wines produced represent?
The wines are the result of a territorial interpretation, aimed at preserving the acidity and therefore the freshness in the wines, respecting the intrinsic characteristics of the native vines. In this sense, the processes are carried out only in steel, not invading the aromatic complex of the wines and precisely preserving their link to the territory. The winemaking is artisanal, the dogma that follows the company: we take care of and accompany the grapes to transform into wine, respecting its characteristics and those that nature has given us that year. The vinification follows organic protocols, with the reduction of the use of sulfur dioxide for the benefit of natural microorganisms"
Territory respected, not exploited?
In 2016 the company entered the Organic Certification system (Certifying body: ICEA). Since October 2019 the farm has been certified organic and since the 2020 harvest the wines have been certified organic wines. Doing organic farming was an ethical choice and considered necessary to obtain the maximization of quality throughout the production process, respecting the grapes, but above all respecting the territory and the biodiversity that lives in our vineyards and land. In the vineyards there is spontaneous grassing, no fertilization is used, the inter-row is managed with mechanical weeding, avoiding the use of pesticides. The idea is to see the vineyard as a whole of an ecosystem, where the vine is just one of the individual plant species that are part of it".
